NYC

So - we're going to NYC this weekend (sorry Fieryredhead - I won't be able to go to the Hafla with you). Its been on my mind a lot lately and I'd like to go to see it before the towers of light are gone.

I found a place in Jersey City that AAA recommended that's convenient (across the street from the Path) and cheap ($70 per night for two people) - its right near the Holland Tunnel. They have continental breakfast included, they have microwaves and refrigerators in the room and we're getting a king sized bed too. Wheee! So Friday after work we'll be heading to uncharted territory and trying our hand at finding our way around NYC on the subway (hmmm, wondering if I should pick up a Frommer's NYC book).

Any inexpensive suggestions of things to do (that you haven't mentioned already)?

Hee hee, in all of my anal-retentiveness I've never done anything this spontaneous before :)

i was just there the weekend before last so i can try and give you a little calendar of what might be going on - some things are regular events and i have a few flyers kicking around of special things...

i heard mention of a surrealist exhibit ongoing on at the met i think -

resident evil movie premier party. free drinks and hors d'oeuvres 11-12. playstation 2 raffles, movie t-shits, soundtracks, etc... (there are free drinks and munchies all the time, not just for this event. it is to lure people in early methinks.)
dj dysfunction & dj finite. industrial, goth, darkwave. hairpeice fashion show by venus shooting stars. $10 b4 12 w/ flyer $15 after, $20 w/o. doors 10:30. 125 e. 11th st. between 3rd & 4th ave. www.websterhall.com www.zenwarp.com crispin black and alain pain will be doing fire shows at 12 and 2 - this should be fun, i talked to them for a while about it. i've never been to z'warp since it was moved from the limelight to webster hall. limelight is currently closed.

went to this for the first time last weekend. had a blast! hardcore trance starts around 3am , i love it, some perople hate it. there are 2 levels of music so one shouldn't have it.

saturday opening night! go to this! i am jealous!

Tapping The Vein on Saturday at the Batcave (aka buttcave or ratcave). bands play before 10pmish to 12 and then dancing from 12-4. i had a great time when i went, i hadn't been in ages and it was completely done over - there are two levels, gothand synthpop upstairs and synthpop...trance...techno downstairs.

of course there is probably more going on, but this was off the top of my head. no shortage of things to do!
