Now I can obsess about the fun details.

Moving, paint colors and stuff for sale:

First off - pencil us in! We'll need help loading boxes into a truck on the eve of Tuesday June 29 (my birthday, btw). We'll need help unloading boxes from the truck at the new house on Wed June 30. Furniture - we're hoping to leave to the pros . . . so it should be an easy move.

The last time we moved it was stupid hot and humid out (it was June 28, 2002). Afterwards we caravaned to my parents house to go swimming, and my Dad bought everyone Chinese Food. This time if we want we could WALK to my parent's house to take a dip. :)

I know its the middle of the week and all - but it doesn't hurt to ask for help :)

We decided that though it would be nice to just move in - white walls are boring. Painting though shouldn't take long. Originally we wanted to paint the same colors as the place in Framingham, but the rooms are so small that I'm not sure how dark colors will work. Ideas? For reference, our living room was a garnet/burgandy color (with forest green living room set) and the dining room had deep royal blue walls. We'd either do these colors or lighter ones that complement them.

As to room arrangement, we still haven't figured out what we want to do. We're trying to decide what bedroom to use for a bedroom :). I've decided I want to get a Lane Hope chest and even picked out the type I want from their website . . . it would store a lot of stuff and would let me stop using a small bureau I have. I have no clue what they cost though.

-Antique Dining room set (not a fancy antique, but still antique - a bit beat up but fits a lot - cherry veneer finish but is pine underneath), $250

"I will so help you paint, and I love brainstorming colors."

Awesome :)

"How tall are the ceilings?"

Maybe 8 feet? Not too low, not too high.

"You could put up some sort of wainscot and paint that dark, leaving the walls a lighter color (which can make a room seem taller)"

It sounds nice, but I don't think would be a good idea. Most of the walls will be obstructed by furniture :)

"... Or do a single wall in a room a dark color and leave the rest lighter but the same hue -- see how the light enters the room before you decide on the dark wall, 'cause you'll want the sunlight hitting a lighter wall."

That's what I'm thinking.

" Or if you have dormer windows you could paint 'em a tint of the wall color to subtly add more light (where did I get that idea? :)"

Heh, we don't have any dormer windows. We do however, have a couple of bay windows. I'm wondering if that would be the good wall to be the light one. Or perhaps that wall and the one opposite it (i.e. the opening to the dining room).

"One thing I love about the color we used in our bedroom was that it was a strong color but was not dark per se -- it's intense but does not make a small room seem smaller."

The one in our living room is definitely dark - we like it, but our living room now is huge - the one in Waltham isn't :)

"Let me know when you start painting; I should be done with my own stuff by then (I hope, anyhow!)."

I'll be thinking of it soon, though not getting paint till right around when we move. We'll only be doing 3 rooms and a teeny, tiny bathroom and won't be painting trim (its all white, and can just stay that way for all I care).

Whee!
