We came, we saw, we marched . . .

I'm starting to recover from the weekend of little sleep in DC. Dionysia and I headed out with a group that her Mom was coordinating from CT. There was a reporter on our bus - you can read the article here.
I don't have the time to write about the experience here - what I can say is, please, whatever your view on this issue, GET OUT AND VOTE THIS FALL.
I took some pics with a throw away camera, I'll post them after they are developed and scanned.

The inspection at the Waltham house was yesterday - some issues but nothing major. Anyone know where we could get a good sized wardrobe (1 bedroom doesn't have a closet)? Anyone know where we could get a collapsable dining room table? I've seen these before, where you pull it out of a cabinet as long as needed (I'm not sure if they even exist anymore).
We had some ideas of future work (winterizing the sunroom, putting a wood-stove in there) but we'd need the cash for them first. Also, the rooms are much smaller than what we have now so we'll need to be creative with furniture and arrangements. These are just some ideas for organizing that may save us space :)
We took a bunch of pics, I'll post when we get them up later.
The inspection on our house in Framingham is today - here's hoping there aren't any deal-breaking (or price changing) issues!
The P&S (crosses fingers) on both places should be signed by the end of the week. This also means that we have to write a check for almost $18,000 for the Waltham house. Ouch! This means our savings accounts will be officially emptied out (its a good thing closings will happen in 2 months, and that profit from the Framingham house will give us the rest of the downpayment i.e. 15% in addition to this 5% AND will leave us money for closing costs).
But damn, I don't think we'll be able to hire movers. Here's hoping we can hire movers at least for the furniture. After this week we'll have to figure out how all that will work, and how (and what) we'll pay for it. We'll need to consider the fact that we'd probably need to have our house emptied of stuff on the 29th, but couldn't move in till the afternoon or night of the 30th . . . whee fun!

Date: 2004-04-27 07:14 am (UTC)re: table - have you tried/thought of an 8ft. folding table? Not the lightest thing in the world, but it'd hold stuff.
re: movers - have you tried looking on/posting to boston.craigslist.com? If I hear of anything else, I'll let you know.
Moving stuff
Date: 2004-04-27 07:45 am (UTC)Thanks! I'll check them out (though, we'd want one that looked like real furniture - not a plastic, cloth or metal one).

See comment on real furniure :) We want to buy a dining room set, but one that's not huge.

I did look on there and saw one person advertising (though no website, references, etc). That's an awesome idea though - I'll have to post there for advice next week after we've gotten through this P&S mess.

Date: 2004-04-27 07:40 am (UTC)march...not that we would have seen you, but hey. Glad you had fun!"
I did bump into Eric Parks and Juliette - it suprised me to find someone that I knew there :)
There were supposed to be a bunch of bellydancing people there too . . . and I didn't see any!

Date: 2004-04-27 08:05 am (UTC)We have a small dining room set that we were planning on selling at a yard sale this spring/summer. It's not beautiful (to me anyway), but it's solid and in good shape. The table has folding leaves that when down make the table quite small and when up it can just fit seats. It has matching chairs (4) and a bench that seats 2. It's a dark wood. You'd probably want to recover the chairs as they are currently covered in green vinyl (ugly but indestructable).
Let me know if you want to take a look at it.

Dining room set
Date: 2004-04-27 09:10 am (UTC)Well, the set we have now would fit in the LR, its just cozy (seats 6, we have 4 chairs). I think the one you have may be *too* small, but thanks for letting me know about it :)
The room could fit a full dining room set - it would just be a bit cramped. I'm hoping to find a new set that's got a good, tall china cabinet that would fit our stuff (rather than the china cabinet and buffet that we have now). The table - I'd hope to get one with 4 chairs that the leaf could be taken out of (so I could accomodate a bunch if necessary, but not always take up the space.
My grandmother had a kick ass one that was huge, and somehow fit into something that looked like a buffet - she undid it when needed and it took up small space other times. I don't even know if those things exist anymore, but I think it may be worth a look :)
Thanks again for the reference of the house. You'll be giving birth before we move, so after that's settled down (heh) we'll need to have you over for dinner :)

Date: 2004-04-27 08:47 am (UTC)http://www.ikea-usa.com has both products available for online purchase - shipping is a bitch though - and also has an interactive part that has their whole catalog.
they do some amazing things with the collapsable table, but don't think they have a pull-out table like your'e looking for.
they also have a large selection of wardrobes & wardrobe systems.
home depot also has some basic white laminated wardrobes if you're looking for really inexpensive.
Thanks!
Date: 2004-04-27 09:19 am (UTC)We'll definitely keep them in mind :)
